HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Norfolk Southern reopened its rail line through Huntsville about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday after the derailment of nine boxcars 12 hours earlier closed the line.

No one was injured when nine Norfolk Southern boxcars in an eastbound train derailed about 3 a.m. near Interstate 565 and Triana Boulevard, police and a company spokeswoman said.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation, Norfolk spokeswoman Susan Terpay said.

Six of the derailed boxcars contained pulp board and the other three were empty, Terpay said.

Eight of the cars turned over on their sides and one car remained upright but off the tracks, she said.

Police reported no traffic problems or hazardous materials problems from the derailment.
