ALTOONA, Pa. — Norfolk Southern is planning a second layoff in the last four months at its Juniata Locomotive shops. Pennsylvania Rep. Lou Schmitt (R-Blair) confirmed early this morning that he’s been informed that company officials are meeting with workers today, and he said the layoff “will be worse than the last time” when about 50 were laid off in May. Schmitt is extremely upset, saying Norfolk Southern officials indicated no such thing at a meeting in Altoona last week at a hearing of the State House Transportation Committee.
