NEW YORK — Shares of Norfolk Southern Corp. hit a new all-time high Thursday as investors reacted to its surging first-quarter earnings and optimistic outlook.
Norfolk Southern shares jumped $5.37, or 7.9 percent, to $73.78 in afternoon trading. They rose as high as $74.36 during the session. It’s the first time shares have topped $70 this year. The stock’s previous all-time high was $73.55, set in August 2008.
