NEW YORK — A year after Superstorm Sandy pushed the Hudson River over much of the Metro-North Railroad line near its banks, the 26,000 daily riders might believe that things have returned to normal.
But unseen to commuters awaiting morning trains, the tracks, switches and communications cables are not what they were before the storm. The Hudson Line was the hardest hit of Metro-North’s three main lines when the historic storm shoved a surge of water up the river, flooding stations, short-circuiting rail switches and other systems along about half the railway.
