NORFOLK, Va. — According to Reuters, David Goode, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Norfolk Southern Corp., will undergo surgery for prostate cancer, the railroad company said on Friday.

Norfolk Southern, based in Norfolk, Virginia, said the cancer was discovered as a result of an routine physical and is in an early and treatable stage. Doctors expect Goode to make a full recovery.

Goode’s surgery is scheduled for Oct. 24. He will not attend the company’s regular quarterly meeting with the financial community on Oct. 23 in New York, the company said.

Goode, in a statement, said he will modify his business and travel activities for several weeks but intends to continue performing all his duties as Norfolk Southern chief executive.
