On Monday, Norfolk Southern Corp. plans to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for a $97.5 million intermodal terminal in McCalla, Ala.
Slated to open in 2012, the 316-acre Birmingham Intermodal Terminal will be designed to handle about 165,000 containers and trailers annually.
Meanwhile, CSX Corp. plans to hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, too. The Class I expects to kick off construction on a $100 million yard expansion project in Worcester, Mass.
CSX plans to relocate its yard operations from Boston’s Beacon Park yards to existing yards in central and western Massachusetts.
