(The Norfolk Southern Corp. issued the following news release on April 29.)
NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk Southern Corporation has been named Coors Brewing Company’s 2002 Transportation Supplier of the Year.
Norfolk Southern earned this recognition by significantly reducing transit times for inbound and outbound insulated railcars moving to distribution centers from Coors’ Shenandoah, Va., plant. This is the first time Norfolk Southern has received the award, which was presented at a ceremony in Golden, Colo.
“Freshness is a key ingredient in Coors’ products, which are refrigerated from origin to destination,” said Don Seale, NS senior vice president Merchandise Marketing. “With the rollout of Norfolk Southern’s redesigned service network during 2002, NS improved average transit times from Coors’ facilities to its largest distributors by more than 30 percent.”
Norfolk Southern Corporation is one of the nation’s premier transportation companies. Its Norfolk Southern Railway subsidiary operates 21,500 route miles in 22 states, the District of Columbia and Ontario, serving every major container port in the eastern United States and providing superior connections to western rail carriers. NS operates the East’s most extensive intermodal network and is the nation’s largest rail carrier of automotive parts and finished vehicles.
