NORFOLK, VA — Norfolk Southern Railway Company has established a new Thoroughbred Bulk Transfer® terminal at Fayetteville, N.C. Tidewaterr Transit Company Inc., a major provider of bulk transportation services in North America, has been selected to operate the facility, as well as NS’ TBT facility at Dalton, Ga.
TBT facilities handle the transfer of bulk products, such as plastic pellets and liquid chemical and food products, from one mode of transportation to another. Bulk transfer permits off-rail shippers and receivers of varied commodities to combine rail’s long-haul efficiencies with truck’s convenient door-to-door delivery.
“The new Fayetteville facility enhances Norfolk Southern’s network of 28 TBT terminals in 16 states and allows shippers to extend their distribution and terminal options into eastern North Carolina and South Carolina,” said Mike Webb, manager MODALGISTICS®, Norfolk Southern’s supply chain and distribution services group. “We look forward to working with Tidewater Transit and building strong customer relationships in the surrounding Fayetteville area.”
The new TBT terminal has 50 car spots with separate tracks for food products and can handle both dry and liquid bulk products. The Fayetteville facility features paving, security, full fencing, steam boiler for product heating, lighting, 24-hour access and truck scales. All TBT terminals are open facilities and allow haulage by qualified motor carriers. Located at 1011 Wilkes Road Extension in Fayetteville, the terminal has convenient access to Interstate 95.
“Tidewater Transit is excited to have been chosen to manage two of Norfolk Southern’s branded bulk terminals,” said Warren Groseclose, senior vice president sales. “With our strong presence in Southeast markets, our partnership with NS will enhance our ability to serve our customers and offer them additional value-added services at Fayetteville and Dalton.”
Norfolk Southern’s other TBT facilities are located in Atlanta; Baltimore; Buffalo, N.Y.; Charlotte, N.C.; Chattanooga, Tenn.; Chicago; Cincinnati (2); Cleveland, Ohio; Columbus, Ohio (2); Edgemoor, Del.; Elizabeth, N.J.; Jacksonville, Fla.; Jersey City (Croxton), N.J.; Louisville, Ky.; Miami, Fla.; Mobile, Ala.; Paterson, N.J.; Petersburg, Va.; Pittsburgh (2); Spartanburg, S.C.; Whiting, Ind.; Willis, Mich.; and Winston-Salem, N.C.
