NORFOLK, Va. — Tropical Storm Sally is strengthening in the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to make landfall Tuesday, Sept. 15, as a Category 1 hurricane over the southeastern coast of Louisiana.

The Flood Protection Authority advised Norfolk Southern the floodgates that impede the flow of NS rail traffic into and out of New Orleans will close at noon today, Sept. 14. NS will work with our foreign line partners on possible alternate routing, but customers should expect delays to their traffic until this system passes. Additionally, NS’ operations in its Mobile, Alabama yard have ceased as heavy rains and high winds are expected. NS will continue to provide updates as conditions change.
