BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Norfolk Southern’s $97.5 million railroad hub in McCalla won’t create that many direct jobs, but officials said Monday the project will deliver a major economic boost to the area.
The intermodal facility will have the capacity to handle about 165,000 containers and trailers annually and is expected to open in late 2012.
