NEW ALBANY, Ind. — A railroad police officer shot and killed a man who fired a gun outside the New Albany Police Department.

New Albany Police Capt. Keith Whitlow said the man and a Norfolk Southern Railroad police officer exchanged fire about 5:30 p.m. Sunday. New Albany is across the Ohio River from Louisville, Ky.
The officer was not injured.

Whitlow declined to identify the gunman or the officer.
