GREENSBORO, N.C. — A Greensboro street is blocked after eleven cars in a Norfolk Southern freight train tipped over Monday night.
The tracks are shut down as the company tries to figure out what happened and how to get the cars back on track. They say it might take weeks before the report is completed.
A company spokesperson says none of the derailed cars were carrying hazardous materials and most of the freight is soybeans and sheet steel.
The 86-car train was headed for Lynwood, just south of Lexington.
The incident happened near the intersection of Merritt Drive and Patterson Street in Greensboro. Police reopened Merritt Drive earlier.
