KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Norfolk Southern railroad car accidentally dumped nearly 30 tons of coal Tuesday night in the Mascot community in East Knox County, according to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency.

A door in the side of the car was either left open or accidentally came open as the train was moving, and the car’s entire cargo of coal “was spread along the track where the car was running,” said TEMA spokesman Donnie Smith.

The accident happened about 8 p.m., Smith said, and there were no injuries.

“There is no danger to the public,” he said.
