RENO, Nevada — Workers combing through rubble yesterday found a cellular phone belonging to the truck driver involved in the June 24 fatal Amtrak accident.

Investigators also revealed that the truck driver, Lawrence R. Valli, 43, had received four speeding tickets in the past three years, including three for driving a school bus over the speed limit in California. The National Transportation Safety Board is also investigating the truck’s tires and braking system, and said he was traveling at a considerable speed when he skidded through closed crossing gates and into the side of a moving Amtrak train. At least six people were killed and approximately 20 were injured in the collision.
