WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Transportation Safety Board released the final agenda for next week’s, “Roundtable Discussion on Next Steps in Rail Tank Car Safety,” scheduled for Wednesday, July 13, 2016.

The one-day event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT in the NTSB Board Room and Conference Center, Washington. NTSB Board Member Robert Sumwalt will moderate the participant-driven discussion.

Roundtable participants will discuss issues that are critical to ensuring timely implementation of new federal safety standards for rail tank cars that carry flammable liquids. The roundtable will bring together representatives from the railroad industry, rail-car manufacturers and owners, and industry associations to discuss the progress of moving to a new, more robust rail tank car – the DOT 117. Making sure trains stay on the tracks and having rail tank cars that can keep their product contained in the event of a derailment or crash is of vital significance.

The final agenda and additional information about the event is available here: http://go.usa.gov/xcXxT.

The roundtable is free and open to the public to observe. No registration is necessary. Directions to the conference site are available at: http://go.usa.gov/xcXTk.

The event will also be webcast live. An archive of the webcast will be available on the NTSB website after the event at: http://stream.capitolconnection.org/capcon/ntsb/ntsb.htm.
