LONGVIEW, Wash. — The National Transportation Safety Board continues to investigate last year’s collision between two freight trains near Carrolls Bluff.

The wreck on Nov. 15, 2003, injured two Union Pacific crewmen, derailed more than 20 rail cars and closed two lanes of Interstate 5 for several hours.

Last week, an NTSB spokesman said such investigations “take around a year or more” to complete.

The federal agency is expected to issue a final report on the matter sometime in the spring.

The wreck between UP and Burlington Northern Santa Fe trains happened nearly 10 years to the day and in almost the same spot as a Nov. 11, 1993, freight train crash that killed five crewmen.
