WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Barack Obama wants a top official at the Port of New York and New Jersey to serve on Amtrak’s board of directors.

Anthony R. Coscia has been chairman of the port authority’s board of commissioners since April 2003.
The White House said in a statement issued this evening that Coscia oversees the port authority’s various transportation businesses and $6.7 billion annual budget. He also leads the port authority’s new mass transit rail programs.
A former chairman of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, Coscia is also an attorney in private practice and a 1984 graduate of Rutgers law school.
