DES MOINES, Iowa — Federal prosecutors said Wednesday they’re filing charges in connection with a deadly immigrant smuggling attempt in Iowa.

Last October, railroad workers found the badly decomposed bodies of 11 people inside a railroad car in Denison.

Investigators said the 11 people were men, women and children, which were all believed to be illegal immigrants from Mexico and Central America.

Officials with the United States District Attorney’s Office said it would announce the charges Thursday afternoon in a press conference at the Union Pacific rail yards in Des Moines.
