TOLEDO, Ohio — One hundred and fifty years ago, a band of Union soldiers that would come to be known as Andrews’ Raiders stole a train and set off on an ill-fated mission that created for them a permanent spot in Civil War history.
Because the daring participants hailed from three Ohio infantry regiments — the 2nd, the 21st, and the 33rd — Ohio is marking the 150th anniversary at a variety of events.
At the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus Thursday, the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board and the Ohio National Guard are hosting a free program at 10:30 a.m., commemorating the Great Locomotive Chase as the April 12, 1862, exploit was dubbed.
