JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Old 1504 got poked and prodded recently, the first step in a planned restoration of the steel-rail thoroughbred’s rusty flanks.
Project Return to Glory inspectors crawled in and around the rust that streaks the 94-year-old Atlantic Coast Line locomotive and tender parked outside the Prime Osborn Convention Center for 24 years. Next up is its cosmetic restoration funded by $20,000 in grants from Trains Magazine and CSX.
