WILMINGTON, Del. — The head of Amtrak said he had to automobiles to make the dedication of train station in Delaware re-named after Vice President Joe Biden.

Amtrak President and CEO Joseph Boardman planned roll into the Wilmington station aboard the Acela Express Saturday, but the train experienced mechanical trouble in Baltimore, requiring him to travel the rest of the way to Wilmington by car.

Boardman was traveling with Amtrak board member Jeff Moreland and Joseph Szabo, the head of the Federal Railroad Administration, when their first-class car lost power. The executives and their assistants were moved to coach class and then disembarked at Baltimore’s Penn Station.

Boardman told ABC it seemed to be bad form for the head of Amtrak to abandon ship, but missing the dedication ceremony and stiffing the vice president because his train was late would have looked even worse.
