COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — An explosion at a rail car repair shop killed one man and injured at least three others Tuesday.
Workers were using a grinder to shave excess metal off a passenger car when a spark ignited something, said John Bromley, a spokesman for the Union Pacific rail yard. He said the blast hurled an empty fuel tank and blew out a window in the shop.
A 46-year-old man whose name was not immediately released was killed, police said. Three people were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The cause of the explosion was under investigation.
