INDEPENDENCE, Ohio, March 7 — The Open Enrollment for the BLET’s Short Term Disability Enhanced-Plan and the new Enhanced-Plan Plus, underwritten by Sun Life Financial, has begun. The open enrollment will end on March 31, 2022 and those who enroll will have their coverage take effect on April 1, 2022.
These options are meant to improve the Base-Plan benefit that is paid for by the railroad as long as you are a locomotive engineer working on a participating railroad and continue to meet the eligibility requirements.
Coverage Highlights:
Enhanced-Plan
- The Enhanced-Plan pays an additional $102 weekly benefit for a combined weekly benefit of $402.
- Starts paying on day 22 from the date of disability and pays for up to 35
- Monthly premium is $25.00.
Enhanced-Plan Plus
- The Enhanced-Plan Plus pays an additional $102 weekly benefit for a combined weekly benefit of $402.
- Starts paying on day 22 from the date of disability and pays for up to 52
- Monthly premium is $40.00.
Important: Your initial and continued eligibility for the Enhanced-Plan or Enhanced-Plan Plus coverage remains dependent on your eligibility for the Base-Plan. In order to be eligible for the Base-Plan, you must maintain seven (7) starts in each month with one (1) start as an engineer. If you do not meet these minimum eligibility requirements, you have the option to pay the Base-Plan premium of $40 to prevent a loss of coverage.
