NEW YORK — Shares of railroads and shippers surged early Wednesday, as the broader market opened higher and oil prices steadied after hitting another trading record.

Oil prices remained virtually flat in early trading, after hitting a record Tuesday of $126.98 a barrel.

Here’s how major players fared early Wednesday:

Union Pacific Corp., up $2.25 to $151.31. Shares hit a new all-time high of $151.28 after the opening bell.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp., up $1.57 to $107.36. The stock reached a new all-time high of $107.92 earlier.

CSX Corp., up 97 cents to $65.95. Shares set a new all-time high of $66 earlier.

FedEx Corp., up $1.04 to $90.65.

United Parcel Service Inc., up 98 cents to $71.78.
