RICHMOND, Ind. — I believe it would be a grave error if the railroads were to reduce train crew size, which is why I’m encouraged by the bill introduced by State Rep. Ron Bacon, R-Chandler, that addresses this very issue. H.B. 1029, if enacted into law, would mandate that the crew of a freight train must consist of at least two individuals. While most Hoosiers agree that this legislation is a common sense approach to public safety, this bill faces stiff opposition from the major railroad carriers and short lines.
