MEDICINE HAT, Alberta — The acquittal of three railway workers last week on charges of negligence causing 47 deaths in the Lac Mégantic tragedy may be contradictory on its surface. They were, after all, in charge of a stalled oil-laden train that eventually slipped its brakes on a steep grade. The resulting explosion killed dozens and devastated the Quebec town in 2013. However, it focuses the entire matter back where it should been all along: Strong regulation and oversight, as well as a voice for workers in the process are required to avert such accidents.
