NEWARK, N.J. — NJ Transit now says it wasn’t a disabled train that slowed commuters in and out of New York City’s Penn Station.
Spokesman Dan Stessel says there is a problem with Amtrak’s overhead wire in the south rail tube and commuters can expect “significant delays.” That’s because only one track has electricity.
Stessel says Northeast Corridor, Midtown Direct and North Jersey Coast Line trains are running 45 to 60 minutes behind schedule.
PATH and buses are honoring NJ Transit rail passes.
No word when the problem will be fixed.
The disabled train was stuck in the tunnel for about an hour until it was removed at 7:07 a.m.
Amtrak says its trains are running about 15 minutes behind schedule.
