LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Pacific Harbor Line is now serving customers located in three industrial areas near the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, linked to a 10-mile industrial spur owned by Union Pacific Railroad.
PHL currently provides service to seven customers, six days a week. Located on the Patata, Reyes and Carson industrial leads, customers include Cargill Milling Inc., PCCR USA, Contractor’s Cargo, International Paper, Epsilon Plastics, Grow More Inc. and Konoike-Pacific cold storage. Service began July 1.
“Union Pacific asked us to switch the line on their behalf,” said PHL President Otis Cliatt II. “The intent was to extend PHL’s switching franchise to these new customers, bringing them the same efficiency and customer focus that we’ve provided to other shippers in the LA-Long Beach terminal area.”
PHL Marketing Director Don Norton explained, “This is a classic short-line opportunity in which our customized customer service and local management presence should yield a significant increase in volume over time.”
Cliatt concluded, “We’re extremely excited to expand our service outside PHL’s normal footprint of port activity–focusing on employee and public safety, impeccable customized service and business growth.”
Brandon Rodriguez, production scheduler at International Paper, stated, “PHL’s service has been spot on since they took over.”
