(The Jersey Journal posted the following article on its website on April 6.)
JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Weekend PATH service between Hoboken and the World Trade Center will be eliminated to accommodate construction of the Freedom Tower in Lower Manhattan.
Beginning Sunday, passengers wishing to get to the World Trade Center from Hoboken or Pavonia/Newport will have to take a Journal Square-bound train and transfer at Grove Street in Jersey City. All Hoboken-to-33rd Street trains will stop at Journal Square.
Suspension of service on one of the tracks will allow workers to fit foundations for columns at the Freedom Tower, the centerpiece for the redevelopment of Ground Zero. Certain portions of the Freedom Tower will be constructed immediately adjacent to the tracks and require relocation of railroad utility lines.
