NEWARK, N.J. — PATH service is expected to return to normal operations tomorrow morning, after a train derailment caused disruptions this afternoon, officials said.
A PATH train bound for 33rd Street in Manhattan derailed just after leaving Hoboken Station shortly before 3 p.m., officials said.
No one was injured when an axle truck on one of the center cars came off track, said Pasquale DiFulco, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The approximately 300 passengers on board were taken back to the station by another train, and arrived there by 4:30 p.m., officials said.
Direct service from Hoboken to 33rd Street remained suspended for several hours, and Manhattan-bound passengers were asked to change trains at the Pavonia/Newport Station. Trains from 33rd Street to Hoboken were running normally.
All trains were expected to be back on schedule in time for the morning commute, DiFulco said tonight.
