PLAINVIEW, TEXAS — One person was treated for minor injuries after the vehicle he was driving was hit by a train on Sunday afternoon.

According to the accident report, Calistro Lee Soto, 22, of Plainview was traveling west in a 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck in the 2200 block of County Road 68 at 3:11 p.m.

He failed to yield to the right-of-way and collided with a train, owned by Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway.

The train struck the Chevrolet on the back left corner.

Soto was taken to Covenant Hospital Plainview where he was treated and released.

According to the report, no citations were issued.

The wreck comes two days before law enforcement personnel join with BNSF Railway in an effort to make railroad crossing more safe.

The two groups will ride a locomotive through town from 8 a.m.-noon Tuesday and pass out safety packets to the public.

The activity is part of an awareness program for law enforcement, as well as for the public.
