(The Associated Press circulated the following story on May 15.)
PIERRE — Mayor Dennis Eisnach says he is pleased with the progress of plans for a railroad bypass around the capital city.
Eisnach met with the state’s congressional delegation and Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad President Kevin Schieffer in the last week. The railroad is expanding and improving its line from Wyoming to Minnesota and would cut through Pierre, so some people there want a bypass.
Eisnach said Schieffer offered to help find engineers familiar with the project that could help link a bypass with the expansion. He said he and Schieffer also had a frank discussion about financing.
Eisnach said he told the state’s congressional delegation that continued support is key to the project.
