BERKELEY, Calif. — A woman in a wheelchair was struck and killed by a freight train Tuesday morning, and the death is being investigated as a possible suicide, Union Pacific railroad spokesman John Bromley said.
Both Union Pacific and the Berkeley Police Department are investigating, Bromley said.
The woman’s name is being withheld by the Alameda County Coroner’s Office until family has been notified. She was struck by the train along Third Street between Addison Street and Bancroft Way at 2:49 a.m.
The train involved was delayed about two hours after the accident, Bromley said.
