MUNCIE, Ind. — Several railroad crossings in the Muncie area are back open today after being closed for several hours for a derailment of eleven train cars.
No one was injured in the incident yesterday involving a 136-car Norfolk Southern train.
The cars carrying automobile wheels jumped the tracks after the train had been stopped on tracks waiting for other traffic to clear. The derailment happened near the Indiana Steel and Wire plant about nine a-m yesterday.
Railroad crews needed seven hours to move the derailed cars off into a field.
The train originated Friday morning in Fort Wayne and bound for Cincinnati.
