RICHMOND, Ind. — Richmond Power & Light is commemorating coal delivered by rail with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:30 a.m. today.

In 2006, the municipally owned electric utility signed a three-year contract with CSX and two other rail companies — Indiana Railroad and Indiana Eastern Railroad — to deliver coal from southern Indiana to the utility’s coal yard.

Coal shipments began arriving in April.

Today’s ceremony was expected to include comments by Richmond Mayor Sally Hutton, Thomas Hoback, president and CEO of The Indiana Rail Road Company, Doug Jobe, president of Indiana Eastern Railroad, and Donald Arrowsmith, president and CEO of Triad Mining, Inc.

The public is invited and refreshments will be served following the ceremony.
