PHILADELPHIA — Electrical problems shut down several train lines in the Philadelphia region yesterday, leaving passengers stranded and angry about the delays.
SEPTA spokesman Jim Whitaker said that downed overhead power lines in Wayne Junction forced SEPTA to stop service at 10 a.m. on the R6 Norristown, R7 Chestnut Hill East, and R8 Fox Chase. Transit problems worsened at 6 p.m. after a power failure in New York forced Amtrak to shut down service for about a half hour along its eastern corridor – affecting SEPTA’s R1 airport line, the R2 Marcus Hook, the R4 Paoli, and the R8 Chestnut Hill lines.
