CLEVELAND, July 9 — BLET National President Don Hahs met recently with two transportation leaders in Washington, D.C. to discuss rail safety issues.

In separate meetings with Betty Munro, Acting Administrator of the Federal Railroad Administration, and James Oberstar, Ranking Democrat on the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, President Hahs and other BLET leaders stated the BLET’s position on issues that impact the safety of BLET members and all railroad employees.

“Congressman Oberstar has long been a champion on issues regarding rail safety,” said Hahs. “Representative Oberstar has always been willing to listen to us and work with us to address the concerns of our membership. It was a pleasure meeting him once again, and I look forward to working with him in the future.”

This was the first meeting between President Hahs and Acting Administrator Munro, after her appointment to her current position.

“Administrator Munro and I talked at length about issues that impact the lives of our members daily,” said Hahs. “It is important to develop a good working relationship with the new Administrator. The FRA has been ineffective in addressing some of our concerns in the past. We want her to know right away that we look forward to working with her in fighting hard to protect safe, secure rail operations.”
