WOODLAND, Calif. — Yolo County Judge Doris Shockley continued the pretrial hearing of the five alleged Broderick Boys gang members charged with assaulting and Amtrak engineer and conductor to Nov. 2.

Deputy District Attorney Jay Linden, who is prosecuting the case, said the defense needed more time to review the grand jury findings as well as other documents.

Shockley also took the original trial date off calendar.

The five defendants are charged with allegedly stopping an Amtrak passenger train as it moved through West Sacramento on its way up to Sacramento on April 16, according to the indictment. One of the defendants was on the tracks, causing the conductor to stop the train.

The train’s engineer left the train to investigate and attacked with rocks, bottles and a fire extinguisher, which Linden said they may have gotten from inside the train. The engineer suffered severe head and internal injuries.
