ROTTERDAM, N.Y. — Railex, the cross-country shipper of produce and other perishables that has its East Coast terminal in Rotterdam, is in the early stages of an expansion project that could add as much as 65,000 square feet to its existing building.
Rotterdam’s planning commission, which had previously approved an expansion of 58,000 square feet, this week gave Railex the OK for the larger addition.
The trains carry fruit, vegetables and other perishables, stopping only to change crews and to refuel. Union Pacific and CSX jointly operate them.
