BOSTON — Commuter rail service to Providence from Boston has resumed late this afternoon, the MBTA said.
Earlier today, the MBTA was forced to shuttle outbound commuter rail passengers heading to Providence after fire officials closed the tracks in Rhode Island because a wooden bridge above it had burned, raising safety concerns for trains passing underneath.
But MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said in an 4:15 p.m. e-mail that regular outbound service has resumed.
“Repairs to the bridge have been made,” he said. “Regular commuter rail service is resuming.”
Inbound service was not interrupted. The track is owned and maintained by Amtrak.
