(The Kansas City Star posted the following Associated Press article on its website on April 15.)
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Two rail inspection systems will be built on the Minnesota-Canada border, in International Falls and Noyes, according to Sen. Mark Dayton.
The Vehicle and Container Inspection Systems, designed to inspect rail cargo, can detect radiation and other dangerous materials. Dayton, D-Minn., and Rep. Jim Oberstar, D-Minn., asked the Transportation Security Administration to place the systems in the state.
There will also be such systems in North Dakota, New York, Idaho and Washington, and in Ontario and Windsor, Canada.
