WASHINGTON, D.C. — Leaders of rail unions representing thousands of Amtrak workers will hold a press conference to discuss issues related to the threat of an Amtrak shutdown and the need for Congress and the President to avert this potential catastrophe by enacting a federal loan guarantee and emergency appropriations for Amtrak.

Representing the AFL-CIO’s Transportation Trades Department (TTD), the union leaders are mobilizing on Capitol Hill and are scheduled to meet with Transportation Secretary Norm Mineta at 11 a.m. on June 25 at Department of Transportation headquarters.

The press conference will occur following the private meeting with Secretary Mineta. The labor movement has been organizing grassroots lobbying from around the country and pushing lawmakers in Washington to act without delay.
