KIRKWOOD, Mo. — Kirkwood police and representatives of the Missouri Department of Transportation, Missouri Operation Lifesaver, Union Pacific Railroad and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway will be at railroad crossings in Kirkwood and Oakland on Thursday to promote rail safety.

They will hand out safety tips to help drivers make safe decisions at crossings and around railroad tracks and properties.

Kirkwood and Oakland both have two double-track mainline railroads passing through at 12 crossings. The cities also have “quiet zones” in which trains do not routinely sound horns.
