JERSEY CITY, N.J. — New York and New Jersey will soon have access to a computerized tracking system for freight traveling with railroad operator CSX Corp.
The two states and the railroad were expected to announce details of their partnership during a news conference Tuesday at Liberty State Park. Officials said it should help enhance security measures already in place.
“It improves our ability to protect communities along the rail lines, and protect the rail lines themselves,” said Roger Shatzkin, a spokesman for New Jersey’s Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness.
Richard Canas, the office’s director, has said that protecting passenger and commercial rail lines was one of the state’s top priorities.
