LONDON — Railway workers voted Thursday to strike in a dispute over pay, threatening further disruption to Britain’s beleaguered rail network, reports a wire service.

Conductors working for Silverlink Trains, which runs services across north London and to and from central England, backed industrial action by 64 votes to 56, the Rail, Maritime and Transport union said.

“Our members have rejected the company’s offer twice and have now indicated that they are ready to strike for a just pay settlement,” said Bob Crow, the union’s general secretary.

The company had offered a two-year pay deal worth 3.3 percent this year and at least 3 percent next year.

“It is not too late for Silverlink to step back from the brink and improve its offer,” Crow added.

A strike by Silverlink workers would be the latest in a series of walkouts affecting several rail companies this year, mainly over pay.
