BOCA RATON, Fla. — Gary O. Marino, RailAmerica, Inc. Chairman, President & CEO, today announced the promotions of Michael J. Howe, formerly Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, to Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer; Matthew J. Devine, formerly Vice President of Corporate Development, to Senior Vice President of Corporate Development, and Daniel A. Hershman, formerly Associate General Counsel, to Vice President – Litigation Counsel.

Mr. Howe joined RailAmerica in 2000 with over 30 years of experience in finance, operations and systems management, including 18 years in the transportation industry. Prior to joining RailAmerica, Mr. Howe was Vice President & Chief Financial Officer at SurfAir, Inc., an international transportation services company. He was also employed by CSX Corporation for seven years in various senior management positions, including Chief Financial Officer at CSX Logistics Information Services and Senior Director at CSX Commercial Services. Mr. Howe, a CPA, received both his B.B.A. and M.B.A. in Accounting from the University of North Florida.

Mr. Devine joined RailAmerica in 2001 and has extensive experience in financial and strategic planning, corporate finance, accounting, and mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining RailAmerica, Mr. Devine served as Vice President & Treasurer of Schneider Logistics, Inc. He also served as Controller of Crowley American Transport and Director of Financial Analysis & Business Solutions for Crowley Maritime Corporation. Prior to that, he spent nine years with CSX Corporation in various finance capacities. Mr. Devine received his B.S. degree in Finance from Providence College and his M.B.A. degree in Finance from Fordham University.

Mr. Hershman joined RailAmerica in early 2001 and has over 22 years of legal experience. Prior to joining RailAmerica, Mr. Hershman was Senior Litigation Counsel at W.R. Grace & Co. Mr. Hershman, a member of the Florida Bar, is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida and its trial bar, and the U.S. court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. He received his A.B. from Muhlenberg College and his J.D. from Harvard Law School.
