BOCA RATON, Fla. — RailAmerica sold its Georgia Southwestern Railroad in a series of deals for $7.1 million, the Palm Beach Post reports.
RailAmerica said it sold 102 miles of track and real estate to the State of Georgia for $5.4 million.
In two other deals, a private firm bought the capital stock of Georgia Southwestern from RailAmerica for $1 million and paid the short line operator $700,000 for eight locomotives. RailAmerica did not name the private firm, but said that it will continue to operate the railroad on behalf of the State of Georgia.
The line generated revenue of $3.7 million and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of $539,000 in 2001.
Boca Raton-based RailAmerica owns 49 short-line and regional railroads in the United States, Canada, Australia and Chile.
