STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The National Railway Historical Society, in partnership with Amtrak, the Canadian Pacific Railway and Steamtown National Historic Site, will conduct RailCamp 2007 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.
Amtrak will bring passenger equipment, including a General Electric P42 Genesis locomotive, coach, club dinette and business car to offer students the opportunity to learn about passenger rail service. Three cars will be open for viewing.
The display is included in the park’s regular entrance fee.
This successful program began in 1998 as a pilot project to create a forum where students in Grades 9 to 12 learn about the world of railroading and share ideas and interests with peers from other areas. Amtrak serves more than 500 destinations in 46 states. Last year, they welcomed 24.3 million riders.
The Steamtown National Historic Site is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located on Cliff Avenue in Scranton. For information, call (570) 340-5200 or visit www.nps.gov/stea.
