TORONTO — Railpower Technologies Corp. said yesterday it has become the first company of its kind to get U.S. Environmental Protection Agency certification for a three-engine road switcher locomotive, as its stock rose more than 20 per cent.
“Obtaining EPA certification for our road switchers further validates the environmental benefits of our technology,” said chief executive Jose Mathieu.
Shares in Montreal-based Railpower were up 12 cents at 70 cents with more than 1 million units trading in Toronto.
EPA clearance was a condition for payment in a contract Railpower reached with a major customer in November.
