ELKHART, Ind. — Two train cars derailed in Elkhart on today, causing minor traffic problems downtown, police said.
Two flat cars carrying semitrailers left the tracks in the late morning, Elkhart police Lt. Tom Cutler said. No one was injured and nothing leaked from the trailers, he said.
Workers were able to clear a crossing on Main Street in less than two hours, he said. A second crossing was expected to remain closed until tonight, he said.
Cutler did not know what was inside the trailers.
“As far as I know, there’s no hazardous materials involved,” he said.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation, he said.
